Certified by American Speciality Board, Dr. Lal has been Fellow of American College of Cardiology, Fellow of Royal College of Physicians (Canada) and Fellow of Society of Cardiac Angiography and Interventions, USA. He has held several faculty positions in the university hospitals of United States and has now been working as Director Interventional Cardiology at Metro Heart Institute, Noida since 1997. One of the highest volume operators in the country, Dr. Lal has more than 20 FIRSTS to his credit such as slow rotational angioplasty, atherectomy, rotablator, ASD closure, Aortic Valve Replacement without surgery etc. and has developed many of hiw own techniques like left atriofemoral bypass support, mitral valvulopassty without the use of Cath Lab etc. By adding few tips he has established the Coronary Angiography through elbow is a safe and users-friendly. He has been designated as the First Investigator of Inoue Balloon Valvuloplasty and Percutaneous Aortic Valve Replacement in India. His name has been listed several times in LIMCA Book of World Records. He has large number of publications to his credit and has received many honours and orations including Dr. V.V. Shah Oration Gold Medal by Cardiological Society of India in 1992. He was selected for the award of Padma Shree in 1993 and Life Time Achievement Award by DMA in 2002. In 2003, he was awarded Padma Bhushan by the President of India and again in 2005 Dr. B.C. Roy National Award by the President of India. He has been a member of Central Council for Health & Family Welfare and Member of Expert Committee for the medical devices, Govt. of India.
Among many achievements, the following remain unique for Dr. Purshotam Lal:
- Introduced the largest number of procedures in the field of Interventional Cardiology for the first time in the country.
- Has been performing the largest number of angioplasties in a year in the whole country as a single operator.
- Has been the only Interventional Cardiologist in the country who has received both Padmabhushan and Dr. B.C. Roy National Award by the President of India in the last 20 years.
