No bone Cut, no Wiring, almost no scar & faster recovery: Minimally Invasive Cardiac Surgery

By in Cardiology Cardiac Surgery

Jul 19, 2017

Two of the rarest of the rare surgeries performed by the pioneers in MIS, Dr. Vikram Goyal, Dr. Rajeev Gehlot and Dr. Sangtani at Metro MAS Heartcare and Multispeciality Hospital, Jaipur Rajhasthan

Case 1

A 22 year old boy was presented with bad aortic valve disease. The diseases were coupled with narrow aortic root and severe LV Dysfunction. His successful MIS for Aortic Valve Replacement (AVR) made it probably the first of its kind in India.

Conventional AVR, where incision, ranging between 8-10 inches, is put in the middle of chest and bone (sternum) is cut in between and rewiring has to done after completion of surgery. It takes 1.5 months to heal with chances of infection and there are bad scars and sometimes keloid. Whereas by MIS technique less than 3 inch incision was made without cutting the bones.

Case 2

A 7 Years old child weighing  17 Kg was presented with birth defect and hole in heart called as Congenital Heart Defect called as Ostium Secundum with large ASD. Dr. Goyal suggested that MIS with Femoro-Femoral Cannulation at this age and weight probably made this surgery as the rarest not only in India but in the world.

Surgery was done by making just 2 inch incision on right side of chest. The best part of this surgery is that child does not require any medication throughout his life.

Minimally Invasive Cardiac Surgeries: Benefits
  • No Bone Cut
  • No Rib Damage
  • No Cartilage Disruption
  • No Plate or Wiring
  • No Much Stretching
  • Minimal pain and no chances of bad scar (almost invisible).

The recovery and return to normalcy is so fast, so much so that patient is ready to be discharged on 3rd day of surgery in comparison to the normal open heart surgery which takes 7-10 days for the discharge. This innovative technique is a boon for unmarried girls and young females who want good cosmetic results along with disease free life.

Dr. Vikram Goyal and his team has so far performed around 1000 similar procedures of MIS including valve replacements, By-pass surgeries and also Congenital Heart Defects.

These rare surgeries were covered widely by leading newspapers and electronic media like Hindustan Times, Rajasthan Patrika, Dainik Bhaskar,  Punjab Kesari, ETV etc.
