Gallstone disease is linked with Gallbladder Cancer

Gallstone disease more prevalent in North India

Gallstone is a most common and ignorant disease in India, it is one of the major cause of abdominal pain and discomfort. Its occurrence has been found to be high in the adult population in North India in comparison to South India.

Symptoms

Sudden pain in the upper right abdomen, indigestion, bloating, and feeling of nausea and vomiting are some of the symptoms that people experience.

What happen if gallstones left untreated?

If gallstones left untreated can lead to various complications of gallstones which may include inflammation of the gallbladder, jaundice, pain attack caused by stones, infection in gallbladder, liver or bile duct, pancreatitis (inflammation of the pancreas due to a gallstone blockage). Many people do not have symptoms of gallstones until they have complications. Large and long-standing gall stones are being associated with a higher risk of gallbladder cancer.

Laparoscopic Cholecystectomy

Gallbladder stones are removed by a surgical procedure called Laparoscopic Cholecystectomy.it is a minimal invasive procedure which is done using a long narrow instruments through small incisions in the abdomen. Laparoscopic surgery is preferred over open surgery because of smaller incisions, reduced risk of infection, bleeding, and faster recovery time. You will be encouraged to walk as soon you are awake and feeling better, patient can be discharged on the next day of the surgery. Wound will take around 4-5 days to recover, your doctor will remove the stitches at the follow up appointment. Recovery period and coming back to your usual activities is one week.
