HAEMATOLOGY

DEPARTMENT OF CLINICAL HEMATOLOGY

Blood is a life line for survival. Blood carries oxygen and fighting forces to each and every cell and organ of human body.

Blood is formed in bones and along with lymph nodes and spleen plays an important role for the production and maintenance of the Fighting forces - the antibodies for the body.

Any deflection from the normal values of blood constituents and antibodies can be calamitous. To name a few; such as anaemia, blood cancer and various infections. Anaemia  is lack of haemoglobin and can be because of several diseases.

It is the clinical haematologist  who only can diagnose the actual cause of disease and treat the disease specifically.

Our hospital has clinical haematology unit headed by senior clinical haematologist  Prof. Om Kumari  Gupta  with experience of more than 30 years. Our Pathology is well equipped lab to handle relevant investigations related to blood , lymphnode and spleen disorders.

Thus haematology unit covers many diseases

  • Anaemia of any type e.g. - Iron  deficiency
  • Blood Cancer –
  • Multiple Myeloma
  • Thalassemia and other hereditary anaemia
  • Abnormal prolonged Bleeding such as hemophilia
  • Gland enlargement
  • Spleen enlargement
  • Bone Pains

Routine Procedures done are:

  • Bone Marrow Aspiration
  • Bone Marrow Biopsy
  • Peripheral Smear Study
  • Reticulocyte count

Special Investigation are also done such as:

  • C.D Markers
  • S. Protein Electrophoresis
  • Immuno Electrophoresis
  • Iron Stains
  • Hemoglobin Electrophoresis
  • Coagulation factor estimation.
